In Argentina, the COVID-19 pandemic had a severe impact, with one of the world’s longest lockdowns starting in March 2020, which included strict police controls, school closures, movement restrictions, and the shutdown of non-essential activities. The country faced a deep recession, with over 42,000 small businesses closing, job losses, and poverty rising above 40%. The government implemented aid measures such as the Emergency Family Income program and the ATP scheme to help cover wages. The crisis also took a toll on mental health, with high levels of anxiety and depression, especially among young people. By the end of 2021, Argentina had recorded over 5 million infections and around 115,000 COVID-19 deaths.
